I just got back from a 5 day vacation, been feeding with an auto feeder and I noticed this morning there are some new black spots like freckles on my clowns.

they seem to be acting normal and eating so is this something to worry about? Can anyone identify what this could be?

I do have some corals and a nem so could be stings but I haven’t seen them try to host anything yet. My concern is I have new fish coming soon and I don’t want to put QT’d fish into my tank if this is an issue.

In the past, i owned a pair of clowns that displayed the exact same thing & it was just their coloration coming in. Your clowns still look to be fairly small, so the black will continue to come in & fill in the orange as they grow, especially on the female. The female continues to get bigger & the male remains small once they pair up & courtship is over. When the female begins to dominate the male, courtship will look like a bad case of domestic abuse, lol, it could look really bad but that’s how they court each other.as long as they are still feeding, swimming, eyes are clear, fins are not ripped & not looking lethargic, the clowns are ok. Also take in mind the type of clowns you purchased & what type of markings might come in later in the future. The amount of breeding that has been done with clowns will produce odd looking markings on fish. Hope it makes sense & it helps.

thanks for the reply, you are the second to note it looks like morphing so I will just keep an eye out and see how they progress. Other than the visible marks everything is normal for them so I’m not worried at the moment the spots are just new.

Those marks just look like stings from nems to me. It'll go away after a while usually and is nothing serious to them I believe
that would be sweet haha, I have pictures of clowns hosting taped to the glass trying to train them lol… doesn’t appear to be working thus far but we shall see

Are the markings flush on the skin? If it is I agree with Resortez. If its protruding from the skin its parasites from stress.
Have you checked your parameters since you got back? The auto feeder might put too much food into the tank?

I have been monitoring water Params closely, only thing that was a little off was Alk when I got back but I have since corrected that. The spots are flush though like a freckle no raised parts on the skin and the clowns are eating and acting as normal as they can.
