Hi! I saw an advertisement about reefapalooza and was considering going. Is it worth it? And can you find pretty good deals? My husband and I are still students so we do not have a big budget at all haha. So we were thinking about it if we can get good deals.

Thanks!

You’re probably best off just buying from hobbyists for the super deals, but not all vendors at RAP are the same. Wwc isn’t going to slang cheap corals most likely, but smaller ones do. I got a whole bunch of cheap stuff late Sunday at the 2018 show. Vendor was down to his last 8 or do pieces and I got them for like $40 because he just wanted to get going. Mostly cheap sps but that was right in my wheelhouse at the time. I mean be realistic about expectations when shopping cheap, probably no rainbow torches out there if you’re shopping on a student budget

I think deals can be found but there's still a lot of stuff that is priced high. IMHO I think you'll generally find better deals from your local hobbyists, but you will see a lot more variety at the show which is great even if you're just window shopping.

RAP is fun in general just to be around other reefers that are excited about the hobby, and there are plenty of giveaways and raffles. I think if you go with the intent of just enjoying the event rather than finding good deals, you'll have a much better time.

It’s the biggest show in the world of course it’s worth it is it expensive yes but so is the fair and any other amusement park, so come join the fun buy some raffle tickets and hang out I’m sure you enjoy it

If it’s deals you’re looking for there are a few but mostly on Sunday when the show is about to end

Deals can definatly be had. It just depends on what your looking for. There is much more to the show besides frags. I will be setting up the SCMAS touch tank as one example. Lots of vendors displaying products and answering questions about them. Some vendors have given away free samples in the past. There are several raffles. SCMAS will be raffling off their cantilevered display tank and stand. The main raffle is very popular. Also a great opertunity to meet the people you interact with here and other sites, as well as well know people in the hobby.. I have been going since it was started in a back yard, I believe 20 some years ago.

my suggestion if one is looking for a deal for corals. as the vendor to do a pack of corals for you and not just one. This way he has something to work with. It is much easier for a vendor to work with you on volume where they can absorb things some. I will also be hitting up the vendor at the last minute may be too late. some vendors sell all of their corals to another vendor after the first day. If you want their display tank start talking to them on Saturday about it.
