Hi all,

I'm needing to make a quick trip to an LFS from Irvine. Any feedback you can give on nearby LFS to pick up a tux urchin OR sea hare OR possibly turbo snails (latter probably not preferable, as I want a real GHA lawnmower). Also wouldn't mind finding a lettuce nudibranch.

I am a bit paranoid about fish diseases, which is why I usually only purchase from Dr. Reef's or ReefCleaners, but this time I don't want to go through the hassle of an online order. I also hate aiptasia. And bryopsis. If you know of any unhealthy practices, even if not in the invert tanks, that would be an immediate red flag no-go for me.

Right now, I'm looking at one up the 405 and one up the 55. Went to Seaside over the weekend, but I don't want to get into HB during work hours.

Thank you very much!!

I think your closest options are Tongs in Fountain Valley, Coral Gazers (though i'm unsure what they stock) in Tustin, and Ocean's Tropical in Mission Viejo.

Seaside is one of the cleanest shops locally. Is the one up the 55 Amazing Aquariums & Reefs? They are pretty small. Reef Lounge is pretty nice as well but they don't open until 3.

Yes, the one up 55 is Amazing Aquariums, and I see they only open at 2pm. I'll give them a call to see what they have.

Going by Google reviews is a bit terrifying. Lots of 5 stars, and then, for some shops, lots of 1 stars with people commenting on their fishing coming home with ich and velvet or seeing lots of dead fish in the stores. Not very comforting! I think people on this forum are a bit more knowledgeable and have a better idea of what shops are in good condition and what aren't.

Thanks!

Bit late! Tried calling Amazing Aquariums, but they just had trochus snails, not the heavy lawnmowers. I ended up at Tongs and brought home a sea hare. Bizarre creature. I saw it munching on GHA a bit, but it is currently sitting on top of my codium.

How much was that?

$24, which I thought was quite high considering ReefCleaners sells them for $16 when (rarely) in stock. Suppose save on shipping. There were three tanks with sea hares in them. Two of the tanks had small gobies (and one of the largest aiptasia I've seen), and the third only inverts. I took one from the third and hoped it doesn't normally have fish in it. I haven't been to a fish store yet that's free of aiptasia.
