I have had my 60 gallon tank for almost two years now and yesterday my electricity popped off and back on as it does sometimes on my small town for random reasons sometimes but my filter would not start back up but it normally does. It was time for a cleaning soon anyway so I took this opportunity to do so.I syphoned out my 20 percent water change and cleaned my filters and my filter restarted.My water has been clear for the last year but in the beginning it had a cloudy look. After the change I put my prime in as I always do and some water clouded stuff ( not sure if the name)to make sure my water stays crystal clear. I walked away from my tank and came back and my water had a cloudy look to it. What did I do wrong? I only have two fish an Oranda and a black goldfish with a algae eater .

It sounds like a bacterial bloom to me, so you can wait it out and test for ammonia and nitrite to be safe.

Second kupo. If your water begins to go green & turn to pea soup where you can’t see through the water, definitely a bacterial bloom. If it does go full green swamp water, API algae fix will clear it right up. In my experience, freshwater systems function better with a heavy beneficial bacterial load. If you’re running a canister, pack it in with biomedia. My preferred go to biomedia for fresh & even salt water is the Eheim substrate pro, looks like coco puffs.
