There's a theory floating around about how mari/wild pieces can carry a pathogen or bacteria that the cultured pieces don't have mechanism to fight against, but it's a theory or mind story with no proof. Flow can definitely cause some issues, but I think it would affect the neighbors too?

That’s interesting! Hope that’s not the case here

yeah flow is strong but I always feel like if the fish can swim the sticks should be good, if not constant. Maybe something weakened them enough to let the vermetid snails bother them? This one is recovering

cyano has been annoying as hell. Super high flow resistant too.

I had cyano for a while and I started two things that helped quite a bit. First, manual removal by siphoning it into a sock in the sump (no need to change water if you don't have to) and dosing PNS Probio every couple days at about 1/2 the recommended dose. I'm trying to keep up dosing Probio at once or twice a week, as I think it helps the system overall. I think the big vermitids can bother corals, but I've never had an issue with the smaller ones, they were just annoying when I would stab myself with one.

Have you tried that Sno for the cyano?

I was dosing it but I've been slacking on basics in general so probably not consistently enough to do anything? I'll have to mix some up and start dosing again. Maybe add in some bacteria, I do feel like that was helping the tank overall.

Thanks Jimbo

tank is doing okay. Still a little funky, not sure what’s up. I’m going to order another ICP and see what that’s showing me. Water clarity looks great but when I look close at some pieces they just look a little off.

the enchinata is plugging right along. Same for the other maricultures down there.
IMG_9842.jpeg

The backside of that mariculture millepora has me worried. Might not be getting enough flow
IMG_9845.jpeg

Cherry bomb is pretty toasted. I’m gonna cut it and try and save the encrusted portion

I do see a weird spontaneous spike in my ph graphs. I think it’s just some interference with something clicking on/off but not sure. It’ll shoot to 8.5-8.6 momentarily when I’m looking through the history.

Looking good! I’m glad that confetti is cooking for you, mine is still funky, along with the shortcake. I don’t think they like my high PO4? That one red piece is looking awesome! The echinata too!
It’s funny, but on my nano system the pH probe always jumps up after I kick the system into feed mode and the Tunze and skimmer shut off. My guess is it’s just a cheap pH probe that’s susceptible to interference.
Your Shazam piece is looking good, I’m glad it’s still going strong, that’s a super cool piece.

No new updates since June. Hope you’re not getting lazy on me.

Oh man, beyond lazy unfortunately.

I'm losing some stuff to TN issues. BC Joker, Oregon Tort, the wild enchinata, insanity and WD have all have gone up in smoke. My big 3 and salinity checked out, 9, 420, 1440, 1.025. My nutrients did drop to .02 and 2.5ppm at the time I checked, so maybe it bottomed out for a bit? Could also be chloramines although I didn't think it had been that long since I replaced my Chloramine monsters cartridge. That's the problem with getting lazy, shit goes wrong and it could be so many things I haven't been on top of.

Considering taking a step back for a while, but holding out for a bit to make sure that's what I want to do.

Did you sell your tank or did you end up keeping it?

Man I’m sorry to hear you’re having issues, but at least it doesn’t appear to be the tin that you, myself, and Gofor were discussing.

I do hope you hang in there as I get to live vicariously through you (selfish I know).

I sold off almost everything, but kept the tank, stand, and RO setup just in case I decide to make a comeback.

Well, hopefully you find the time cause that was one badass setup. Tin did finally come down but never went away completely. Seems to stay around the 3 ug/l mark.

I cleaned the glass, tossed in some carbon yesterday and the tanks looking pretty clean minus the TN pieces. Swapped some RO/DI filters and dumped my mixing station. I'm going to do a water change tomorrow, pull the TN pieces and frag anything I think might make it.

Hopefully it's just isolated pieces and nothing global in the tank? I hate losing pieces, but now I focus on the ones that do well in my tank. Acropora are a very diverse group of corals and they don't all share the same place on the reef, but we try to keep them together, often forgetting that they don't always like the same conditions as others. Lmk when you're ready for that RP ultra violet, I may take a small frag and let it heal up before I bring it to you? I think it's one of those pieces that appreciates lower PO4 and that's not my tank. :p I say let the ones that are thriving grow big, then maybe later on try something new. I think I'm going to try the slow-hand approach, only buy one frag at a time and see how it does in my tank. Only after 6 months or so will I add something new if I have the space. I should give you a frag of my Brian Doyle-Murray, it seems like the brother to the famous Bill Murray acro. It's another piece that's taking up room on the sand. Hopefully things will rebound for you soon and you get inspired again. It's easy to focus on the bad shit, but don't forget the other pieces that are looking awesome.

Well I went to check my skimmer cup and saw no foam. It was unplugged, not sure how long ago I did that but could be a major part of my issue. Or what saved some pieces, my chaeto must have been sucking up quite a bit of nutrients since they all show so low still. I was also running a short duration of ozone at night, I wonder if that pissed things off without it being skimmed off?

For sure though, what ever makes it makes it at this point. I don't plan to add anything anytime soon. Just gonna let it go and try and stay on top of things better. If it all goes south, I'll just do a softie/gigantea tank for awhile.

So far my smoothies are looking okay and they are my main focus. I'd be fine to end up with just a tank full of them.

That RPUV like lower nutrients for sure. I watched that sucker brown out in about 1/2 hour after dosing redsea AB+. Slimed, turned flow back on and brown haha. I was surprised it lived.

That Bill Murray is a cool looking piece. So far my BC Aquaticman hasn't skipped a beat but I have lost a few BC pieces from my last order, unfortunately. I'm done with Tenuis, they just don't like this tank. HW is still holding on strong but SCOP is toast, I lost my whole cherry bomb colony and now WD is going up but that never looked all that great in here.

Yeah, I’m my 22g I could never keep tenuis, but everything else grew like crazy. But I also think most tenuis are overrated and there are only a few that have standout colors, but that’s just me. You can never go wrong with a tank full of smoothies. You might have to feed more to get that skimmer working again, plus I’m sure the corals would like it too.
