I have SPS-dominant, mixed reef, Carpet/RBTA, and frag tanks. They are pretty much on autopilot and I’m bored, quite honestly. Trading / fragging can be fun but gets old quickly.

Any ideas to try in this hobby? I’m thinking of converting my RS250 into a seahorse tank, which I’ve never done before.

Thoughts?

Seahorse and garden eel tank. If you can get garden eels to thrive, you get to wear the crown.

I've seen one tank on another forum that had a great and stable seahorse/garden eel tank. It's mesmerizing.

Thanks - I’m researching seahorse tanks as we speak!

My wife is horrified of eels, worms, snakes, or mentioning of the word “eel”. I had a bunch of huge leopard & snowflake eels when she & I met — let’s just say I that those water eels had to go. I still get to keep my “eel” though. Ha

Do the seahorse tank then make a thread build for me to follow
That’s my goal for the near future, not cus I’m bored but cus they’re such awesome beautiful creatures! I bought a purple gorgonian recently so that I can grow it out and have some ready for when I finally do that!

Sounds very appealing yet challenging at the same time — esp the multiple feeding / day part! They are really cool creatures though.

If I go the route to convert the RS250, I have to find home for the current livestocks. Corals are easy - move to the 175g but I have to move the following fish: 3 tangs (Gem, Purple, and Sailfin), pair of clowns, 2 Klein butterfly, coral beauty angel, and a 6-line wrasse. Can’t move them to the 175g — one very expensive dinner for the carpet nems! So yeah, might have to plumb up another tank? Hmmm

99% Sure its sold ;D
We are moving to different systems when we move to new location.

The raceway has been fun though, learning curve with not much info on a system of that size so just trial and error. Would do again for sure lol.

Lol if you have the means to plumb another tank and it is only cus you’re bored then make a tank for the sea horses! Would be less work than relocating and all that. Or maybe do a fish only tank? Lots of cool fish out there that aren’t reef safe but would be awesome to keep! Would love to have a tank big enough for some sharks one day

I’ve done FOWLR before getting into corals - had eels, triggers (clowntrigger being my fav), angels (lots of them), puffers, etc. Yes — very cool but again, got bored of fish-only.

I’ve never done sea horses and sharks/sting rays! The latter requires a ginormous tank!
