I don’t flag anyone- except that one guy…. Lol j/k

I think haters will hate. Offer up is the new craigslist. Bunch of scammers, flakes and haters. But I have sold a few things and bought a few things through offer up, but it’s more of a pain in the a$$ then it’s worth most of the time.

If anyone is reporting, I doubt it is someone from here especially a lot of people post for sale threads on multiple forums. I know one guy was selling his tank but kept getting flagged because it was showing live fish and corals instead of a dry setup.

It's horrible mine get taken down within hours ea time. I gave up. While I see other sellers have tons of ads up. Sad. Offerup started to go down hill once they started doing ads. Already got 1 acc banned. Don't wanna get the fresh one banned

For me, it’s not about being politically correct but legally correct. Given CA Penal Code 597.4, it prohibits selling live animals in public. So if you meet up with your SCR buddy in a public location to buy/sell frags/fish, is it legal?

Separately, what if you buy/sell live animals in a non-public location (e.g. at one’s residence)? Does that make it legal?
The way I interpreted that Code is in regard to an individual selling on a business level without a legal business license is prohibit. Selling/trading a few here and there as a hobbyist is ok.

I've had people flag me selling dry goods having to do with live animals. Could have been a trigger word issue but I believe I posted lower than others and someone reported to get it pulled down.

Here, facebook and even locally on R2R are good places to sell. FB you just gotta add prices to pictures and you're good.

I'm sure OfferUp has some type of bot that scans for certain key words and flags it for a team to review. But I wouldn't be surprised if others were reported.

See, I think if it was a bot scan, which I definitely think is possible. Everybody would be on the same level. But as others have said, including myself. Why are some folks not getting pulled and others are not.

Ive noticed that the ones that stay up the longest don’t have any description. Or idk some people are just lucky like that lol I don’t have a Facebook but I’ve heard (as mentioned above) that there are good deals there and lots of sales there

Lately my stuff has been getting taken down . My old post with same key words won’t get flagged . What makes believe it’s not a bot is , I’ll post and sometimes they will all get take taken down within a day (this is the most common). Other times I’ll post several things and they will stay on for a week or so then all of them will get flagged.

Luckily I have other places to post with no issues

Since one could argue that selling coral frags and fish (animals) is considered legal by aquarists, why not send a petition to OfferUp, FB, Craigslist (really?), and others to get an exception and not have the bot take the ads down? If deemed illegal, then BAN all these transactions across the board, dare I say it, including this forum and others.

Otherwise, it feels like people are finding loopholes, avoiding keywords, put prices/descriptions in images (AI will catch up), or other means. Sounds like bootlegging and destroying the spirit of this hobby.

Bottom line - this is either black or white, illegal or legal. I’m certain we have reefers who practice law to help interpret and craft a petition. Let’s put an end to this.

Thoughts?

I will sign if someone makes it lol I don’t know legal for

Still thank coral are closer to plants. They should fall into the same legal category since they are photosynthetic organisms.

It’s easier to sell and grow weed apparently wtf

Ditto for me — my reading comprehension is that of a 5yo! :(

People way smarter than me concluded that corals are animals because “they do not make own food, as plants do.” — Really?!$&@ I think corals don’t have to be classified as plants or animals - how about just plain “corals”? ;)

I was thinking on doing one without a description. I thought I was being clever selling frag plugs and showing examples of the growth of frags, with the frags I was (not) selling.
