I do feel tempted to take a blade to this thing today since I am home today. I have a prodigy md. new for the overflow. I guess I have a different perspective. I got into MTS in college when my buddy who ran a LFS out of his dads ace hardware basement. We would buy broken tanks from the distributors for super cheap and just go upstairs and cut new glass for them. So there may or may not of been 12+ tanks in my small college apt. I am just lazy 40 yrs later.
That’s why I love my IM25 EXT — so easy to plumb and gain a lot of real estate.

I don’t think you’re lazy; but rather realized ROI and value of time, which money can’t buy. There are many things that I’ve done as a kid that I will lever do again; such as, oil changes, washing cars, plumbing, etc. It’s time consuming and unless I love it, it’s a chore!

How about getting into culturing, growing, and breeding things other hobbyists and LFS always need. Phyto, baby brine, Berghia Nudibranchs, heck even aptasia has a market for Berghia breeders.

Growing aiptasia sounds like my level of reefing.
Without doing anything right? I used to feed mine when I first started this hobby! lol

Perhaps give aiptasias cool designer names and drive the price up? How about “Holy Grail 24K Aiptasia”? ;)

You know if you tried to grow Aiptasia you couldn't right... If you took a rock out of an existing tank it would die also.
Interesting on nudibranch farming — it’s harder to farm aiptasias to keep nudi alive!

What about farming colorful majano anemones? Those are cute little guys right? ;)

I have some really colorful ones... When some ppl talk about them being a pest I was like why? They are actually nice looking. Then I saw some ugly ones...

back when I was a newb, I actually bought majanos from a guy selling them from his tank. We BOTH thought they were green BTA's! lol

Build a reef tank purely lite by sunlight only
Well — no need for that. I just take a short 10min drive to Steve Garret’s house. He has 2 1200g combined tanks that can grow corals like mad! It’s probably cheaper to buy those frags vs building a tank myself. That said — would be cool to do but logistically very challenging to heat & cool the tank.

Been to Steve's a bunch we were in scmas together at IHOP meeting.
The tank would be inside next to a window for natural light.

Ah got it. Cool guy! Known him for almost a decade now. Many of my SPS frags came from him.

My frag tank is already getting direct sunlight, that’s how I light my mangrove. However, it’s not enough sunlight though.

Do you remember the sapphire blue millie? Please tell me you have a piece of that. I lost mine years ago.

This is the reason why frags need to be spread or banked within the community. Then if you lose the colony, you can get a frag back.
Yes — agreed. I’m on my way to grab all your frags to preserve for prosperity. Heard you’re still going thru another ugly stage? ;)
