Getting back into the hobby =)

Fellow Long Beach guy. Always handy to have a few reefing buddies for things you never know. I do have some extra gear if you are still in the building shopping mode.

    Upgrade Recommendations

I've been doing this for 25 years or so now. Here's my opinion. Many people get in and out of this hobby because of maintenance. You will read there are other issues, but almost always those are caused by maintenance neglect. Set your tank up in a way that maintenance is easy, so it won't be as...

    Tank upgrade

What is the size difference? The difference between a 20g to a 300g and a 20g to a 30g is kinda huge. I've transferred tanks a few hundred times, it's not hard. In addition to what Jose said I would also recommend using Prime or Amquel for the first few days/week as a preventative. Start...

    Jin’s RS S-850 Journey

Best solution to acro's growing above the waterline I have seen is a store that put GI Joe charactes on top of the tables the acros make when they leave the water. :D

How many fish is to many for 120 gal. 4x2x2

That is actually the same reason. In order to keep them alive and the sand bed healthy long term, you need a much larger volume of sand than a 4x2 footprint will provide.

Looking for a 50-75g vertical water storage tank

Might be able to make that one work there. Is it see through? How much does it hold? How tall/wide is it. What do you want for it?

Screw in light bulb for a refugium

Got it hooked up, looks great. Thank you. Although I must apologize to Sunlight Supply. When I went to hook up the new bulb I realized it was the entire EB8 on the Apex that had gone out, and that bulb was the only noticeable automated thing on there. The UV filter, skimmer neck cleaner, fan...

Looking for a 50-75g vertical water storage tank

Can anyone remind me of the local place that sells these? I know there is one in Garden Grove as well as one in Corona but I can't seem to recall the names. I am looking to get a water change station set up soon. Thanks!

How many fish is to many for 120 gal. 4x2x2

Sand sifting starfish isn't a great choice for a tank that size. Just not enough sand. Some more snails, even a mix of different species would be a better choice.

How many fish is to many for 120 gal. 4x2x2

12 fish is 12 fish. The small ones will grow. You need to stock based on final size, not current size. Depending on the type of blenny you have it might be advantageous to add something that will help with sand cleaning.

    Jin’s RS S-850 Journey

This is something to be concerned about, especially with a Red Sea tank which has a reputation for having seams break. Having the tank not be level will put more pressure on that seal, and well, it's not good. You need to level out the tank so it will be safe with water. That is a lot of water...

Screw in light bulb for a refugium

Thank you! Have you used this one before? I looked at the exact same one prior but I was worried about the salt creep clogging the heat dissipation vents and causing a shortened life span of the bulb. This is the other one I was looking at. Maybe I will just get both and see how it goes...

Screw in light bulb for a refugium

Well, it finally happened, that 12 year old $20 screw in bulb from Sunlight Supply finally bit the dust. What screw in style bulb are people using for refugiums these days? Don't need anything fancy, just trying to grow some algae. I figure at this rate I'll have to buy a new one in 2037...
