Is the nem you got a tube nem. I had the same problem when I got my nem. All my fish got to close to it and they all got stung and died. I'm almost sure it was my nem cause the only fish that survived was my watchman goby who hides underground...

Mine is in the garage also. I used a saddle tap that you can get at Home Depot and tapped into the cold water side of my hot water heater. Depends on what area you live in you can add a inline water filter before your ro/di setup to help filter out hard water so it don't kill your setup filters...
