Probably just do a big skimmer and maybe some mechanical filtration like socks or pads.

Those break down over time, and leech metals when you first put them in. Just add more bacteria if you having nutrient issues.

Ali doesn’t sell to you if he thinks you can’t keep it alive, or it’s fairly rare and he wants to keep it for his own enjoyment. Gem tangs also dropped in price because they opened a new collection area. So they became less rare and less expensive.

Positioning pumps differently should be fine. Or even looking into a sea swirl. Ppl had sand beds not to long ago exclusively

Shops use them. Think it would be ok. Bigger issue would be spilled water on the cheap wood
