I am looking for a skimmer for my 60 gallon. Rated heavy bio load for a 60 gallon but open to something rated higher. I am hoping for a smaller footprint to accommodate setting up a refugium in my sump.

If you don't care to have it visible then I would leave it alone. From my experience, they tend to move more dependent on the flow. You can redirect flow but you also risk it walking onto your corals.
