    Help me

+1 on big paul. Would be great to share all numbers. One thing for sure alk definitely needs to be bumped up but slowly because if it’s too fast of a swing, it can cause other problems.

New here and to the hobby! Here is my first reef tank build. Feedback? Advice?

Looking good. Your tank is a fresh setup, roughly over 60 days so your parameters will shift around for a while until it’s locked in. It takes a while to mature & begin producing its own beneficial bacteria. Best thing to do is to get familiar to your fish & providing them with a healthy...

    RIP Sherman

That sucks. Just keep an eye on NO3, NO2, ammonia, alk, ph. Big water changes will pull out some of the toxin along with a lot of beneficial bacteria that can cause a huge swing in nutrients. Those big swings combined with the toxin can cause trouble. Just make sure all good parameters stay...

    Chiller advice

you should be fine. Looks like the previous owner already figured out the problem & fixed it by adding that ball valve in order to throttle the flow. The split will reduce flow because of all the extra plumbing inside the chiller & the obstruction of the split, so you might have to increase flow...

    AquaScaping for wet Rocks

I’ve used epoxy & crazy glue on wet cycled rock before with no issues but I usually end up using way more material. Just have to make sure that the points your bonding are dry, a heat gun will help with that. It is more work because your dealing with a wet surface on top of mixing the epoxy with...

Please help identify this algae or sponge?

Difficult to ID from the angle the picture was taken from. I’m assuming it’s an algae because of the area it’s growning in. From my understanding, the great majority of sponges don’t grow out in the open areas under intense lighting, sponges tend to grow in dark crevasses, under or between rocks...

    Please help ID mushroom

Difficult to tell from those pictures but I’m going to assume that the first shroom could either be a golden dragon or gumdrop. Second is either orange skirt or bullseye. Sharper pics with some more white lights could help give a more accurate ID. Shrooms still look nice though.

+1 on scout. Definitely a Rhodactis but difficult to ID a popular name. Could be a superman to a bullseye or a forest fire, difficult to tell from the picture.

What local fish store is open for business during COVID Lock down

My lfs is Yo aquarium in Hollywood. The owners name is Billy & has been in business since the 80s, one of the few remaining mom & pop shops in the city. It’s an old pet store that also carries birds, turtles & hamsters to live food like black worms, crickets, feeder fish & mice. Their fish...

    Zebra Moray Eel

+1 on what dontavo said but if you really like the eel & would like to give it a try, do make sure you have lids on your tank. In my experience, eels will explore around the tank & will head to the surface when either it gets hungry & it’s searching for food, water conditions are very poor or in...

Top 3 Worst Inverts To Have In Your Tank

in my experience, the worst are Majano, aiptasia & asterina stars because of how quickly these inverts reproduce, the harm it causes to coral & fish, the amount of work required to begin removing the pest once it’s colonized the tank & it’s an invert that can’t be put into quarantine to be...

    Bad experience with Marine Depot

I just dealt with this issue yesterday. Placed an order with MD & the order was split in 2 packages because some items were on the west coast & the others were east. First package arrived last week safe & on time, at my door step. Second order was a headache. It was scheduled for delivery this...

What’s this goop on my Goni?

Looks more like the ricordea & goni had a fight, ricordea looks to be too close to that goni. I’m assuming that the mushroom stung the goni because it looks like the ric is splitting & the new polyp is stretching towards the goni, plus mushrooms tend to have a stronger toxin than goniopora.
