    Nitrates/Nitrites

Yes, it's been a while. I use to live in Garden Grove. My Mom is still there, but I moved to San Clemente about 3 years ago. I'll be moving up to Oregon within the year. Not looking forward to moving the tank. There's only one LFS in the area, at least an hour radius. The Marine Pure and Pond...

    Nitrates/Nitrites

vacuum the open front area of sand as well, it helps. You can also add some Marine Pure balls or Pond matrix to the middle chamber. Glad you got a new test kit. What did it read on Salifert?

    Nitrates/Nitrites

Yep, I've been to both. David is cool, I bought my new tank and stand from him. Really nice guy. I brought a fish home from his shop with Velvet last year and killed my 6 year old Clowns. Totally my fault for not QTing, but I was use to having some other shops like Coral Collections and Coral...

Can you have too little turnover through the sump?

Excellent response sklywag. The only other thing I could add is that many of us use biomedia in the sump now rather than live rock. Biomedia requires low flow to establish anaeorbic bacteria growth. Like he also said, every single tank is different. So what you keep in the tank will also...

    Nitrates/Nitrites

Just food for thought. I've seen a lot of inaccurate testing with friends in my other group lately using API. Your level could be much lower than what you think. The LFS will test it for you as well. Just make sure they don't use the test strips if you go to Sand Bar.

    Nitrates/Nitrites

Just curious, but are you testing nitrates with API? I used API last year and kept testing off the charts. Bought a Nyos kit and a perfect 30 like I expected. Anyways, it's not going through a cycle. If you're concerned and going off API, do a couple water changes and vacuum the sand while...

    Real Reef Rock Cloudy Water

I've only ever used the purple mad made rock. I don't remember the name, but never had issues with cloudy water. Is the cloudiness white? If so, could also be a bacteria bloom if you dosed too much bacteria, or stir up from the new sand. bacteria blooms can take a couple weeks to go away...

    Carib Sea live sand sale

I've always found Marine Depot to be the cheapest. If you do find it cheaper somewhere else online, they price match. Plus, everything you buy there you earn a bunch of reward points for. Free shipping, rewards, can't beat them :)

    Helpful Tips

After downsizing, then upgrading, I forgot about adding alk to my top off water. I always add a little alk to my top off water, amount depends on the tank, but at least 10 ml to 5 gallons to make it a stable 9 going in. When I upgraded I forgot about that and my alk was dropping through the...

    Glacier water for reef tank

Are you referring to mine? I know. It's really annoying. All the years I lived in Garden Grove and got water from Broc, Robert, then Kevin, these guys all kept 0 TDS water. Here in San Clemente it's slim pickins. Only 3 places in a 30 minute radius to choose from. This shop is the only one with...

    Glacier water for reef tank

Tricky one. I don't fully trust it since there's no DI stage, however, I have tested the vending machine water, Kirkland bottled water, and my LFS's RODI water. The LFS RODI and vending machine both had a TDS of 13, Kirkland close at 19. Who knows what the actual difference of what the TDS is...

    Advice on sand!

I did a 50/50 mix of live sand and dry fine crushed coral in my new tank, set up over a year ago. I put the crushed coral in a pillow case, rinsed like crazy with the hose, then left it on a chair to drain for the day. No problems. I'd rinse it out and use it.

    Test photo Enjoy

So you have to be a supporter to load the big pics? I've been wondering about that myself. There use to be a way to make the pics big for all members. I know Tapatalk loads full size, I haven't used it in a long time though.

Welcome back Bryan!! I've been wondering for a while now how your and the family were and how everything was going. I haven't been around as much either since I moved to San Clemente a couple years ago. Glad to here things are going well now and congrats on the new house and build :)
