Thanks for chiming in :), I didn't say they would bring them down to zero. I said pellets do help lower your phosphates and nitrates. That's why I am using LaCl until my pellets kick in. Good info on precipitate and Tangs, this is another reason why I dont use the sock method and use my diatom...

I read pellets also lower your phosphates as well as nitrates. Some people are just running pellets alone and have great tanks with no GFO. I would imagine if you are cycling you might need GFO but once your tank is established the GFO might not be needed. Any people with experience can chime in...
