What is this? It doesn't look like a sponge because I've had sponges before. It has a paste like consistency and can be blown away with the powerhead or brushed off. It comes back the very next day though. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

So I'm cleaning my tank and changing my water and run into some purple coralline algae growing on my acrylic wall. I tried punching it, yelling at it, even tried to reason with it but the thing is so stubborn. Seriously though, I've been using a poly fiber sponge to clean the walls of my tank...
