    Seeding Sand

I never understood the sand thing. Nothing but bad in a cup of sand. You are literally scooping all detritus from someone's tank and adding it to yours. I would never add anyone else's water into my system. Just asking for trouble if you ask me www.LAreefsociety.org

    Vortechs too STRONG

I hate bare bottom myself. I don't think it looks nice. I have such a shallow sand bed just for appearance. Move your mp40s higher up. To avoid stirring up the sand. Even high up the flow will move downward just not as violent. www.LAreefsociety.org

    Tank placement

60g is a small enough tank to be moved out of the way if you were to spill water. You can slide it away and clean up your carpet. Adding wood underneath would just make it harder to move www.LAreefsociety.org

    Clean sand bed

I only keep about a quarter to half inch of sand. My fighting conch and Nassarius snails keep it really clean. i have about a dozen of each and both types stick to the sand and dont move around the rocks like turbos who knock stuff down. Jason what kind of issues are you having in your sand...

    Anyone keep live brine?

I grow my own and my fish and coral love it. I do not grow mine until they are full adults. Mine are grown in 2-3 days and then fed to the tank. It keeps it easy for me this way and are small enough for the corals to feed as well. I recommend using a container that is funneled downward. The...

    High ammonia

Hey Kd, dont worry about messing up yet, there is nothing to kill yet lol. ammonia spike is normal. The cycle has just begun and does not have the beneficial bacteria yet to cycle the ammonia into nitrite and then nitrate yet. I would leave it alone for a week or two and then test. no need...

    Do You Ever Wonder...

a few points from above posts... the name game was and is created at the hobbyist level once its already here. collectors are concerned with volume not quality. The shippers are the ones that are learning and separating for the higher paying clients. So much comes out of Vietnam and...

    Curing live rock?

any live rock starts to die the second you remove it from water. those live rock boxes that fish stores buy come from overseas and sit at wholesalers for weeks only in a damp bag. it then moves to LFS and they throw it in tanks. There is much die off that gets cycled in their tanks and the...

    Powerhead location question

gyres are nice because you can put them very high up and it would be almost out of view. the circulation of the gyre would give the tank a ton of indirect flow if you point them across the tank at the top.
