What about a dehumidifier in the enclosed area with the evap going to a drain?

Makes sense. The attic space is vented, but it's passive. No fans. Sounds like this will be the challenge.

When you say just started, do you mean it is cycling still? If so, I would leave it dark for a few days. You will have diatoms naturally when starting but no need to help it along by giving it light.
