I just wish that...
A. I could justify spending $4,000 (+ $ for a new helmet and leathers) to save on gas driving to work.
B. I wouldn't have to explain it to my wife.
Good luck with the sale. If by some off chance you want to sell this for casino cash let me know.
Happy to help but I have no idea about the amount of light you will need, sorry. The link I posted was actually just one of the first things that came up when I did a Google search to see how long the bulbs are, I have no personal buying experience from that site. Good luck.
Have you considered...
A. Running two fixtures.
B. Finding/building a canopy and making your own system
C. looking at the actual bulb length/placement and determining if that overhangs your tank. The actual bulb length from pin to pin is usually 45.75"
D. Would you be happy with 6 bulbs...
I've had good luck with the IC-Gel, before that I was using epoxy and that was a PITA. I've never tried other superglue products and since the IC-Gel is cheap I see no reason to.
That is a good name brand but after 22 years that silicone is either toast or it has already been replaced (at least once). When you leak test, it some people recommend adding something (salt?) to the water so it is easier to see if there is a tiny/slow leak.
I wouldn't play around with old silicone, if it leaks or blows apart it will ruin your day. Do your research online and if you need to pay a professional/expert to replace it. Just weigh the $40 that it might cost vs. cleaning 55gallons of saltwater, dead fish, sand and expensive dead coral...
The choice is yours and you opinion is the only one that matters but... the bigger the better!
Just keep in mind that your inhabitants will have plenty of room to hide.
I'm not sure if smaller tanks are "in"; but a lot of people with bigger tanks can't afford them. I think it is sad to see how many tanks are being broken down and sold but hopefully as the economy picks up people will replace and upgrade.
On the positive side, the cheap tanks and equipment...
Would it be even more affordable if you gave the name of a vendor and linked to a website? I'm surprised that none of the site sponsors came to your aid in exchange for advertisement. Oh well, maybe next time.
Welcome back to the hobby and good luck with those frags.
Just go to Costco, (pay for a membership if you need to) and buy socks there, at least you can see what you are buying.
Even if you had to pay for a Costco membership it would probably still be cheaper for the quantity you are looking at buying.
