What to do with 2 drain box towers? HELP!!!!

Hey folks, Hoping some creative types can come along with suggestions on what to do with this fish-only acrylic tank I inherited. Since it was free it kind of negates the notion of just junking it and buying a replacement. Besides, it's a nice tank and hopefully can be retrofitted for modern...

    Hello from Orange County

Very cool the way it was built up in the room, that's pretty incredible. In fact, I did not know you could do it that way. How 'bout some more pics of it up and running with your corals and fishes?

    Boom....solar powaaaa

Seems to me the inverters have a shorter life expectancy than the panels, for sure. Warranty too I think.

My clownfish looks better than your clownfish!

A mated pair, the female is almost 3" long and very aggressive - she bites me the whole time I'm trying to clean the front glass unless I shoosh her away - then she'll stay away for a few seconds. It does get tiresome. LOL. One day I may need gloves. I always wanted to get a big anemone for...

    old tank syndrome

I have about 1/2" to 1" of crushed coral/shells as bed - would you guys recommend siphon it out and replacing it after 3 years? It seems to stay pretty clean. I use a large diameter tube end on a hose to draw detritus out of it but can only get to about a quarter of it, the rest is covered with...

New 75 Build in OC - Intro - HOWDY!

LOL. Yeah, I'm a DIY extraordinaire, but not generally for hire. The problem is accepting an agreed-upon amount for a project and then you're not happy with it, or some part of it. Then I'm stuck with something I have a lot of time, money and effort into and you're unhappy because you didn't get...

    Tired of my rock work....

That's what I used when I set up and liked it a lot. Actually, mine came from Marco Rock - they are having a 15% off site-wide right now too. Build thread here for 'before' pics: http://www.socalireefs.com/forums/showthread.php?18523-New-75-Build-in-OC-Intro-HOWDY!&highlight= Tank is almost 3...

    Powerheads on/off at night?

I like the night mode on the Sicce controller I have, it runs pump-one only at a reduced interval. The tank quiets down and the fish sleep. :noidea:

    Display tank and Sum

I've been away for a couple of years, but my build thread is still alive...lots of pics. It's been a successful setup in that it is virtually maintenance free, and corals have thrived. Go here: http://www.socalireefs.com/forums/showthread.php?18523-New-75-Build-in-OC-Intro-HOWDY!&highlight=...

I confess on to you reef brethren that I am a lazy reefer.

yep...lazy reefer here. :wavey: Fortunately a WC for a 75 is a 5-gal bucket, so I'll mix one up, drop a pump and a heater in it, but it will sit there for a week or more before I get it in the tank. Fill the auto-topoff once a week or so, feed the fish once a day if they're lucky, and that's...

Blue ring angel in a reef?

I thought angel and butterfly fish nibbled on coral? I only always see those types of fish in fish-only setups. :noidea:

    Boom....solar powaaaa

Glad you posted this Shnitz.. Between the reef tank, pool, AC, and all the computers our power has been as high as $360. I think it averages about $280. So we've been seriously looking at a solar array as well. The AC went out a year and a half ago and we've decided it isn't worth 6-8 grand for...

Marine Aquarium Do's and Don'ts for Beginners

For someone just starting out the learning curve is pretty steep. Here's a simple book that is inexpensive and covers the basics very well. It's starting to get a little dated but still full of good info nonetheless, especially about system setup, location, etc....the basics. I found it...

New 75 Build in OC - Intro - HOWDY!

Ha!! That's just what's left. Every few months I go in and cut a bunch down and put it thru the garbage disposal...sounds like grinding up bones. :sarcastic: The clowns have decided it's an anemone and have made it their home. And there's so much of it that it is no longer bothered by their...

New 75 Build in OC - Intro - HOWDY!

Wow, gee, I guess I disappeared for a couple of years. So here's an update and a few pics. Tank has been up and running for almost three years now, pretty much takes care of itself - just change 5gl every couple of weeks and it's been just fine. I do run kalk top off and add a bag of carbon...
