You'll want to get the Micro-Mesh kit for aquariums. Reefgeek.com used to carry them, maybe they still do. Follow the directions and take your time. It's the best thing for the inside and can be used when filled with water and live stock.

It's denitrification, a good thing. If it's unsightly then just use a credit card near the front pane to clean visible spots only. Don't stir the sand bed... the benefical bacteria are working to reduce your nitrates! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Denitrification

Envison makes the best acrylic tanks, SoCal Creations was also excellent before Steve & Randy closed the shop. I've heard good things about Advanced Acrylics. I would take any of these three over a TruVue or Clear for Life (aka Cracked for life).

Most any cap, birdsnets, pocci. You mentioned green, I would get some Green Slimer, its a fast grower. If by chance you live in the High Desert, I would give you a bunch of cap, ORA green pocci and green slimer for free.
