Great piece of advice. Since I installed my fixture I've been contemplating installing a piece of 2x4 cross beam to mount the fixture to instead of drilling thru the dry wall and using the mounting hardware provided in the kit. Sorry to hear man.
What are J hooks? Did you use the ATI...
I have the 8x80 watt ATI LED Powermodule on my 280 gallon. I love the features of the fixture even though the 80watt model is not dimmable. The dusk and dawn features on the LED clusters is amazing and I like how you can control the intensity and color spectrum of the LEDs. Endless...
Check out my build thread. I was in a similar situation as you with carpet. I cut out the carpet around the area where my tank is and placed the tank directly over the concrete slab. I did use a moisture barrier foam from Lowe's to help prevent the wood from rotting. I don't suggest the self...
Besides the skimmer I also picked up 3 buckets of tropic marin pro, Milwaukee digital refractometer, algae free tiger shark magnet cleaner, red sea marine care test kit, and a 300 watt Eheim heater. I love Black Friday!
I definitely plan on adding doors because I have to keep my son out of the sump area :) lol. My goal is to match the same style cabinets and color that we have around the house. I'll make sure to post pics of the frame and doors so you can copy :)
Not too many reviews on the elite 220, but the performance is supposed to be comparable to the regal line which has many positive reviews. In the end customer service played a big part in my decision and reef octopus customer service is supposed to be good. I was worried that if I went with...
After much debate and research I ended up ordering a Reef Octopus Elite 220. It was a toss up between the ATB 10.5 and the Elite 220, but I decided based on cost (black Friday sales) and customer service. I've heard great reviews about the regal and elite line from Reef Octopus so we'll see.
Update..I finally finished gluing all the PVC and I was able to leak test the system. The only leak was a loose 1.5" bulkhead!! Other than that I'm pleased with the results. The Fluval SP6 is as advertised. Quiet, efficient, and plenty of flow.
With my manifold inline teeing off for my fuge, chiller, and calcium reactor, I expect to be around 1800-2000 gph so I should be alright with a 1" emergency.
Got it! I won't chance running without the full siphon standpipe. My goal is to find the right balance of return flow where if the emergency went full siphon it can handle the amount of flow without overflowing the tank. I'll keep you posted on the results.
Can you explain how it would go full siphon if it's submerged? Will it go full siphon after all the air clears? Also, I planned on submerging both the 1.5" and 1" below the water line. Is that ok? Does it matter if it's submerged more than 1"?
