    Anybody rocking a planar overflow?

Replaced the crappy ball valve with a gate valve. WAY better tuning. Finally added the first critter:

    Recommendations for a temp controller

I actually kinda like the 1st gen one better.

PVC, to prime or not to prime, that is the question.

Nice testing. I was told long ago to only use primer when gluing different plastics. Like PVC to ABS. Then I found out about the code and wondered about all those unprimered joints out there that are working just fine...

Welcome to SCR, what are you in a rush to sell?

Ok, now my coworkers are wondering why I'm giggling...

    Recommendations for a temp controller

Yep. That's why I dropped the $40 for the one in that thread that's much nicer. Same unit and philosophy, but looks terrific!

    Recommendations for a temp controller

If you don't want DIY, you can get the same rig pre-built: http://www.nano-reef.com/topic/364817-sold-out-low-cost-temperature-controllers-40-shipped-sold-out/ They're sold out now, but I expect they'll have more soon. DIY can get ugly if you suck like I do:

    Just put a deposit on...

Sweet. I've bought many cars over the years for less than I paid for this, but it's so gonna be worth it when I get it set up.

A new acrylic tank from Advanced Acrylics to replace my oddly shaped 70. 37.5x15.75x30 (30 inches tall). 3/4" acrylic to support that strange size. External overflow, black back, drilled, bulkheads included, eurobraced. :) I'll be able to pick it up sometime in late December. I can't wait!!!

Goobers 85 gallon diy acrylic build (big thanks to Reef Lounge)

Thanks Goober for the lead on Advanced Acrylics. I just started the process to replace my glass 70 with an acrylic one. $1200 because of the crazy dimensions, but so worth it.

Aquarium Stand Padding or Styrofoam or?

To spread the weight evenly, make up for any imperfections in the stand or the aquarium bottom.

    Anybody rocking a planar overflow?

Cut the notches and peeled off the paper. I thought I had some glue somewhere, but can't find it. So can't glue the cap on until I get some next week. Unnecessary for getting it started though. :) I can fill it and roll... I'm debating whether I care if there are partitions in the sump. Since...

    Anybody rocking a planar overflow?

Test fitting the black acrylic back panel. This will serve to hide the overflow and shade it from the light to prevent algae growth.

Oh, and their PhytoFeast was all expired. :( Had to get Phytoplex. Oh well, my gorgs don't care.

    Anaheim checking in

Went to pick up some phyto at New Wave today, and fell in love with a yellow line wrasse. He's a bit stressed from being added to the tank. The Christmas wrasse is all, "dude, what's your problem?" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9O5bVpFXygc EDIT: Whoops, wrong video.

    Anybody rocking a planar overflow?

Aesthetics, space, no big box in the tank, no crap sticking out the back of the tank.

    Anybody rocking a planar overflow?

Yeah, being silent is one of the main reasons for this setup since it'll be in my bedroom. The main overflow will be valved herbie style, while the center section will be wide open and intentionally splashy to alert me there's a problem. The last and widest section is the return. I made it the...

    Anybody rocking a planar overflow?

Here's the glass part of the build completed (finally): I'm going to glue in some tabs to hold a black acrylic sheet that'll be notched to prevent bigger critters from going over. And I can slide it out for repair or cleaning or inspection of the glass. Plus it'll protect against algae...

    Notes to self

Nikon's D3200 sucks for low light video. YouTube sucks for over-compressing video. The built-in speakers in my TV suck for playing Torley Wong's music. Windows 10 sucks when doing processor intensive stuff like Premiere. Anyway I made a thing. I just wanted a nice background video for my TV...
