I DIY this using some plastic trim from home depot and a few drop of super glue to glue the little leg on the inside. cost like $10 in material. I just bend it to the exact shape of the tank. helped with light bleed into the room and jumpers.

glass is harder, usually cost less, and less prone to scratch but more prone to leak. I personally prefer acrylic which is lighter, clearer, and less likely to have leak but you have to take better care to avoid scratch. both have it's pros and cons

I just ramp up the feeding before adding new fish, keep the same amount of food when new fish is added, then ramp up to amount I want to feed in a few days. I think this works the same without dosing/testing unless you plan to add a ton of fish at once
