    Diatom Issues

Alright, got a conch snail and a few more turbos and hermits. I was going to get a polypad, but forgot. I'll let you know how it goes if anyone is interested. Thanks again.

    Diatom Issues

Thanks to everyone for the help. I'll try these suggestions. I'm surprised that something would be eating the snails. They seem like they just slowly become inactive and die. I thought maybe they were sensitive to frequent water changes.

    Diatom Issues

Thanks. The tank is about 3 years old. I didn't realize that it's overly thick. When I siphon the water, I try to stir it up. I read somewhere that there are sands with less silica in it. I could try taking some sand out to see if that helps. My bulb is pretty new (~3m old). It is a...

    Diatom Issues

You guys have helped me in the past, so I'm hoping you can help me with my remaining issue. A while ago, I got rid of pretty much all of my algae issues. I still get occasional cyano blooms, but it's not too bad. My current issue is diatoms. I always have a golden brown layer of them on my...

    Does ReVive kill Aiptasia?

+1 for peppermint shrimp. I've used Joe's Juice, Aptasia X and lemon juice for a couple of years. They would all work for a couple of weeks and then the aptasia would come back. I got one peppermint shrimp and within 2 weeks it killed at least 50 aptasia and they haven't come back in a couple...

Help, I'm on the verge of giving up...

Update I just wanted to give an update on how my tank is doing and thank everyone for their help. There has been a huge improvement in the amount of algae in the tank thanks to all of your help. I am even thinking about getting a bigger tank because all of the coral is growing so well.

help with majano and Aiptasia infestation

Maybe this should be in the beginner's corner, but can you put peppermint and skunk shrimp in the same tank? Also, who/what is Davelink?

Hi, Where did you get the Berghia? I have a bunch of aptasia, but they are all over the place, not on just one rock that I can give you. You should rent yours out! Ken

Help, I'm on the verge of giving up...

I just wanted to give an update. It looks like the bacteria is slowly going away. There is still some, but it's a lot less and it definitely is not growing uncontrolled like before. I've had the phosban reactor going for about 1 month along with the Mg supplementation and algaefix (which I...

Help, I'm on the verge of giving up...

Thanks again for everyone's help. I have taken your advice. I installed a phosphate reactor, changed the carbon, supplemented with Mg, changed the water (I do this every week) and am dosing with algaefix. I'm also only keeping the lights on about 5-6 hours per day. I'm on day 3 without much...

Help, I'm on the verge of giving up...

Thanks again for everyone's help. Most of the microalgae is gone (although it seems like it is coming back a little with the increased light exposure). I put some pictures on the bottom of this post to get an idea about my tanks general condition. I actually saw a seahare at the LFS where I...

Help, I'm on the verge of giving up...

Thanks. Do you know of any LFS's that sell used stuff in OC? Maybe I'll try the algae treatment. I try not to put too many treatment kind of things in there bc I don't want to hurt the other inhabitants. I usually try to scrape as much of the GHA off as I can. Thanks again. I have LR in...

Help, I'm on the verge of giving up...

First, I wanted to say thank you to everyone for your help and support. Like I said before I really like keeping a reef and I'm trying to not get too frustrated. Sorry it's taken me so long to respond, I've been working a lot lately which I guess is good... I've been doing this for the past...

Help, I'm on the verge of giving up...

Thanks so much for all of these suggestions. I really love the hobby and have been very happy with the growth of the sps. I'm going to try leaving the lights off for a couple of days and then slowly re-introducing it. The water is also a little on the warm side (low 80's). I hope the fish do...

Help, I'm on the verge of giving up...

Hi, I have a 24g nano tank. I've had it for almost one year. I bought it from someone else with 2 clown fish, a bunch of zoa and a few other types of coral including frogspawn and some sps. For the past few months I've had a huge amount of growth of algae. Some cyanobacteria, some green...

    Easily clean acrylic aquarium

I haven't seen this posted here, so here it is... I was getting frustrated with hard green algae on my acrylic aquarium. I used different tools and my fingernail, but it was an exercise in futility. Then I found out about the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser. It is cheap, easily available and works...

    Disintigrating Orange Linckia

I don't think it is a starvation thing because I read it takes months for that to happen and this literally occurred over a few days. The biggest problem I read about was osmotic shock. But my SG has been incredibly stable. I check it almost every day. It was either the strontium/trace...

    Disintigrating Orange Linckia

My tank is about 8 months old. I've had it for about 3 months. The orange linckia has been in the tank for about 6 months. My parameters have all been stable including SG of 1.024-1.025, pH ranging 7.8-8.3 depending on the time of day (I know its a bit low, but its been like that the who time)...
