Tank heating, Electric bill at $450 for last month.

I used to have 6 x 300w heaters in my tank, always on (240+120 gal sump), when I setup my new tank (225+70g sump) I put 3 500w heaters and my bill went down month to month about $70 before the crazy prices. not sure about the logic, but seems like when the come on they are on less time.

    Best way to move

I'd be very careful about using old sand, a couple of people kept too much and it caused issues. I'd buy mostly new (maybe a little bit of old.) That's just what I've read. I used 90% new sand and all my old rocks. I also bought some of the blocks and balls, kept them in the old tank for 30...

    Best way to move

Mine is somewhat related. I needed to store my fish for 8 weeks while our house was remodeled. I did multiple water changes in the weeks leading up to the breakdown to get the water as pure/clean as possible. I purchased a black water trough from the hardware store and set that up with fresh...

Free fish tank ~ 28.8 gallons

I had this tank made for me about 10 years ago as an office tank, it sat on my desk. I brought it home about 6 years ago where it ran until about 4 months ago. Free, but you need to clean up. the return pump is original, so I'd say test it. The tank holds water as of today. 14" Deep (top to...

    Adding sand after cycling

Ohh... good idea. I was going to put it in a tupperware dish, lower it and then gently pour it out, but I can see how sliding it down a PVC pipe might be better (and less hands in the water).

    Adding sand after cycling

So, started my new tank about 4 months ago, I've come to the conclusion i need more sand at the back of the tank. I have an extra 20lb bag of live sand. If I rinse the sand with water from the tank does anyone think this might cause an issue? The tank is 225g + 60g sump, so 20lbs of sand...

Anyone know of a wrap around light like this- without buying the whole pack :D

Very cool. I watched a video and they didn't mention fertilizer, but makes sense why you need it.

I'm thinking about getting into this for my tank, but what do you mean by fertilizer?

    Free Flipper - size large

Could use a serious cleaning and maybe replace the material on the inside. clean it well before using, not responsible if you scratch class because you didn't clean it well. The blade is kinda new. Went with a different one for my new tank. Heaters on a different post

    free 300 Watt heaters

I have six 300 watt heaters that will not be going into my new tank. They are between 3-5 years old, and when I pulled them out of my old tank they were working. Let me know if anyone is interested in one or more. Pickup in Lake Forest. They could all use a good wash.

Free 150 gallon black tub - 4 months old

Hi, I used a 150-gallon black tub to host my fish during the remodel (zero losses during the 12 weeks). This tub is at a friend's house, and we will be breaking it down on Saturday, 7/30. I don't have a space to store it so, free to anyone who wants to come to pick it up. sometime between 4-6...

    QT Options

I should be clear, I used the 150 tub because I needed it for all my fish. I'm getting rid of it next week. I mentioned ice chests because we have and use those periodically so we wouldn't be "adding more stuff" to the house like a tank would be, ,sitting around until I needed it. But online...

    QT Options

Moved all my fish to a new tank and I'm looking to add a few more. I don't want to keep/hold a QT tank for infrequent purchases. I was wondering what types of options anyone uses beyond fish tanks. I was wondering if I could use a 125 qt ice chest as a temp QT tank, or an inflatable kiddie...
