The companies that are excluded operate under what is called MAP - it's a system that grants the manufacturer 100% control over the pricing, advertising, and sales/discounts allowed on their items. Any retailer who doesn't abide by the MAP agreement is cut off from the supply. So, if you're discouraged by companies with top-shelf products that never go on sale, tell them so! Only be hearing it from their customers will those manufacturers (of LED lights, DC pumps, Cone skimmers, Controllers...) ever get the message that their tactics are not appreciated.
Unfortunately, there's such a demand for the latest and greatest that those new items sell out time and time again. We prove that we'll pay top dollar to have it right now, first batch, so the manufacturers know that they can charge what they want. If you don't buy it, they figure, the next hobbyist in line will.
