20.00 Refractometer Vs 100.00 Refractometer

20-30.00 Refractometers on amazon seem to have some good reviews.. anyone notice a difference in today’s Refractometers? Anyone using the cheaper ones with no issues?

10 years ago, I don’t think I ever seen one cheaper than 100 bucks. I know there are still models that are 100 and up but the majority are in the 20-30.00 range.. so curious how it’s working out for those using the cheap ones, if the expensive ones are even worth it..

Well, I’ve only ever used the cheap ones. I even cheap out and use distilled water to calibrate instead of calibration fluid. It stays calibrated, though I check it every other time I check my salinity. I have been using cheap ones since 2011, haven’t personally had any issues, though I hear some of the cheap ones need to be calibrated with every use

i've only used the cheap ones and they seem like they are pretty accurate. water from tongs reliably reads low i would only spend $100 or more on the digital one. been eyeing that for a while

I have the Milwaukee digital and couldn’t be happier. It’s about $100. Buy it with the Milwaukee case.

Milwaukee customer care and warrantee service is some of the best on earth.

i have an old 100 dollar refractometer and a cheap-o ebay 20 dollar special... the only difference is the inside display was HUGE in the 100 dollar piece... but, they were both pretty accurate... i don't know why i had two, i think it was a gift, or maybe i bought it because of 20 dollar refractometer...

I have and older $25 dollar one and just bought the Hanna digital one. So far the Hanna is accurate and my go to. It’s about $70 but is also a thermometer so it’s checks salinity and temp when mixing salt.
