Now that I figured things out a bit I thought it was time to stop being a lurker.
After doing what I thought was tons of research (boy was I wrong) I picked up this acrylic 45/50g corner pentagon style tank. Took it home learned to buff acrylic and re stained the stand to match my furniture.
From there I quickly realized how limited my sump options were so I decided to build a DIY 10 gallon sump. Then I realized how limited my skimmer / pump choices were. Given the unfinished look of the acrylic top I knew I wanted a canopy but, that made lighting a challenge. So essentially I learned real quick how much of a PIA this corner tank was going to be lol.
That didnt stop me though and I got it drilled for my dual return pumps. Got it plumbed up, built my sump and found the perfect skimmer. She was filled up about 7 months ago and I haven't looked back since.
Current Equipment:
2 X Sicce 1.0 pumps [Returns]
Reef Octopus 110SSS Skimmer
Lifeguard Aquatics Mini Reactor [Currently Offline]
Icecap Gyre 1K
AI Hydra 26HD on a Gooseneck
GHL 2.1 4 Channel Doser
Neotherm Heater
Roughly 40lbs of Carib Sea life rock & 20lbs of their Fiji Pink Sand
After cycling I quickly added a pair of clown fish and about a month after that I got a wrasse and a small Kole Tang. I didn't QT any of the fish thinking that it would be fine and people are just too concered .... WRONG again. Lost all this fish but a clown and the wrasse which I gave to another forum member who nursed them back to health.
Tank has been fallow for roughly 65 days and just picked up a pair of lightning maroon clowns this week. So I have them and a royal gramma cooking up in the QT.
Also have plans to upgrade to Reefer 350 in the next month or so. So keep your eyes open for that. So thats my story into how I got started now enjoys some photos. Still working on my photography skills.
