It looks similar but hopefully it’s not the same kind of sponge I had, it would grow over my zoanthids preventing them from opening and killing them. I had to remove the rock and scrub it off and do multiple peroxide dips before it finally died.

can’t you expose them to air to kill them off

I tried exposing them to air and the species I had would not die. It was really slimy too, not your typical sponge.
