If you are like me and use NeoMarine salt mix have you tested phosphate on you freshly mixed salt water mix? I have been battling phosphate for a while now, I’m thinking it might be from the rock I put in the tank that might be leeching phosphate into the tank, so I’m performing water changes multiple times a week to no avail, so I decided to put some phosphate media in a filter bag and place in the sump. I run phosphate media for 4 days and finally got it down to .10.

Now I’m ready to do 15% water change and decided to test phosphate on my salt water mixed (im not sure if it made a difference that the water mixed sat for 3 days in my garage with a powerhead), i was suprised to see the phosphate was at 0.50.

Note: I also have a fuge with chaeto.

id check your source water and contaminates in the area. Pretty hard to get that high. Keep in mind air/dust has phosphate in it, so if you are storing in a dirty area, I can see it contaminating the water.

The container is covered with just a small crack that dust could get in. I’m making another batch from the same salt mix and I will test as soon as the water clears.

I will test my source water as soon as I get home.

Agreed their customer service is great and they keep samples from each batch # so they'll be able to confirm if it comes to that.

I use neomarine but haven't had a phosphate issue so I've never tested it.

I made another batch of salt water on a new container (i was told it might be from the container I’m mixing my water from) let it mixed with a power head overnight ( I cleaned the powerhead too) and tested, again I got 50 ppm phosphate now I know for sure it was from the salt mix

Im not sure if this is the batch number and I got it from marine depot.

Are you certain that phosphate test kit is still good?

When is the last time you changed the membrane and pre filters on your rodi?

I'm doing moonshiners method right now so water changes are few and far between but if I get a chance I'll clean my barrel, equipment and do a test.

Also it looks like your .5 right? I'm not familiar with the salifert po4 kit

Salifert phosphate test kit expire 2023 (I think)

RO/DI test result 0ppm
(Sediment filter, carbon block and DI was change just last November)

Tank water test result 0.10
(Note: this is after running phosphate media)

Salwater mix (1st test-using old mixing container) 0.50

Salt water mix (2nd test-using a brand bew container) 0.50

So I’m getting 3 different results from 4 different water. I say the test kit is still good.

I called them and gave them batch number, they will be doing their own testing.
