ATI LIGHT USERS?! Question

I picked up a used 8 bulb T5 fixture. When I tested it for 5 minutes when I bought it, the fans did not turn on.

I am wondering for those who have the fixture, how long does it take before your fans turn on? Is it immediate? I had a 6 bulb fixture 5 years ago and don't recall. On my 24" fixture it is immediate.

I am just trying to figure out if I should swap the fans before I hand the light.

Thanks!

I did replace the fans when I bought the fixture because the stock fans were pretty loud, but they always turned on immediately, before and after.

The fan has it's own plug. So you should have 3 plugs (2 for the lights and 1 for the fan). You should put them in the same timer. So when the light is on, so do the fan.
Ah, I only have two plugs. I see the third input on the power supply, but I do not have that cord.

Edit: I was able to order the connector from ATI. So in a few days I can turn the lights on :D

If you need it sooner JK electronics (westminster) and I'm sure frys carry that 9-12v power supply. Some even selectable like the ATI supply. Selectable is nice, you can find the balance between noise and bulb heat/lifespan.

Matt, Frys electronic stores were gone for a while already. I think Frys is still operating online.

I got the fan power cord, plugged it in, the fans... did not turn on. Going to open them up, make sure they are getting power and possibly replace them. Good thing I happen to have some ATI fans around.

Bah that sucks! Strange that all 4 fans don't run though. I'd verify voltage once you have a fan pulled.

I am pretty sure you are right. I hope to pull it all apart tonight or tomorrow and verify. Luckily I traded some work for some gear with ATI so I have a bunch of brand new fans in my closet. So if there is voltage, I can swap them all. It's weird it is all 3 to me. Like, 1 or 2, OK, but all 3 is strange. I wonder if that is how they work, or if the previous owner did something weird.

I am also wondering if there is some reset button or something since all 3 don't work.

I hit up the homie at ATI so he'll probably write back today. If not I'll kidnap him from RAP and bring him home :D

Well thats good you got spares on hand. I had one fan not working on my ATI 10x54w. I'm trying to remember what the connection was but I ordered a new fan and while going to swap it I saw something wasn't seated correctly. Turned out the fan was good just a bad connection. So one can just go out and the rest work.
I have the metal covers with the fancy ATI logo (Old school power module), not sure if yours are like that. If they are the smallest bend creates contact and keeps the fans from spinning.
Good luck, hopefully you find it out and it's easy. I'm pretty sure everything terminates in that black box. Very well could just be a wire popped out in there or off the female jack in there.

Turns out things were more serious then I thought, we had to call in the Paw Patrol.

It seems the polarity of the fans was somehow backwards. No idea how that works. I confirmed each of the fans was working, by touching their wires to a 9v battery.

Took the fans out and switched the wires to the other ports and they fired up instantly. So I think everything from this light is now good to go.

Had a lot of fun teaching the kid how the wires worked. I actually took all the fans back out after I knew they worked and had him do it. Fun little project.
