I had a plating montipora that was doing well about 18 months ago that suddenly died for reasons unknown to me. I left it in the tank and coarline, green algae and zoas completely grew over the piece. About a week ago I noticed it coming back in multiple places on the old skeleton. Again, explanation unkown to me.
I read a post recently about what appeared to be dead fungia plates starting to make babies and to not discard the apparent dead skeletons.
Anybody else with similar experiences or explanations. I am aware of rtn and stn as likely causes of death, but the long interval to resurrection amazes me.
I guess I will leave most dead sps and lps in the tank and see what happens.
