No jinxes, but I might be getting a copperband very soon that is coming out of QT. It is eat frozen mysis, but I will likely throw a bunch of food at it. I want it FAT and also happy. Plus, any way to get it onto something like freeze dried food will help over the weekend when I'm not in the office to feed frozen.

Thinking of the following:
1. Freeze dried bloodworms
2. Frozen blood worms
3. LRS frenzy or Rod's
4. Clams on half shell (debatable... I'd like a tridacna or hippopus one day)
5. White worms or Black worms --> But I understand you can't really get these, you have to culture them.

Any other ideas? Does anyone know a good local place to pick up good food for Copperbands? I want to avoid the shipping expenses of ordering frozen food from an online distributor.

Thanks!

Mine only eats frozen stuff so definitely want to learn if there’s a trick to get it to eat dry foods.

I'll try some nori. Probably going to order some freeze dried blood worms and call an LFS or two to see if they have LRS or Rod's and frozen blood worms.

Live Manila clams from market then frozen to kill parasite. Pe mysis in feeder box but PITA. Clam is easier imo. I got 7-8 big tangs so no way cbb can compete for broadcast feed or nori. If u don’t have competition should be able to train on prepared food

I'll have a wrasse dominant tank, but fairies and flashers are pretty voracious and fast feeders. Jason says the CBB is also eating masstick, so ai might get one of those printed reef feeders and stuff some masstick in there.

do you just take the clam/mussel from the freezer and throw it in the tank or did you cut up the meat? I know copperbands are all different but wondering what worked for you.
I microwaved it really quickly not to cook it but to get it to open. Then just dropped the whole thing in tank

If it's eating frozen mysis there's a good chance it'll eat freeze dried mysis. Mine almost exclusively eats freeze dried mysis. Use a feed ring and drop a cube of frozen in along with a couple pinches of freeze dried. Better yet you should introduce freeze dried in qt

My Avast Plank reef jerkey includes some freeze dried mysis. Maybe the CBB will like it. My wrasses hate it, but the corals catch it and if not... Bristleworms

I heard CBB loves mastick. But if you get CBB, you might be able to get any clams. Although, you might not have to worry about aiptasias either.

If that's the case, I might go with a sump clam since the sump will be a display macro sump. Or just forego clams until I have a tank for them!

Joe, this is how I got mine to eat everything. Go to Hmart near us, in the seafood dept. they have small trays of different types of frozen seafood, I.E. clams, squid, oysters, mussels, shrimp and the likes. Run it through a meat grinder then add in every kind of dry food you can find. Add a little RODI and then freeze it into little cubes. He'll get used to eating everything that melts off the cubes. Then when you go on vacation, (or the weekend) he'll be ready to eat the dry food coming from the autofeeder. Mine is not a timid feeder!

Amazing Aquariums and Reefs has LRS along with other quality frozen foods like PE mysis ect.

I had built this little feeder out of a 3/4 intake strainer and 3/4" pvc end cap. I drilled a hole in the back of the end cap and was able to put a suction cup on the back. I could fit a couple cubes of frozen in there. All the fish would swarm it, but only the CBB could get the pieces that were stuck inside. I find they aren't super aggressive water column feeders and can get out competed/intimidated easily.

I drop pellets into the feed ring to distract the other fish first then the mysis so the cbb can have a chance....but yeah my cbb is not a shy eater but mainly only feeds off the surface of the water
