i have a bicolor foxface and he doesn't touch turf algae. tbh he's kind of a broken foxface in that he doesn't eat nori either. he does love hair algae from the ats so he does eat some veggies

i have 4 urchins, also don't eat turf algae

i have a diverse af cuc, don't touch it

i don't have any tangs tho, so can't say if they'd work or not. i wonder if a bristletooth might be the key since they go after shorter algaes

My tuxedos mow down on turf, so do the turbos. I always get turf on my gyres and when the urchins reach it, it’s all cleared up the next day. If you can find some of the smaller abalone, they would probably go after it as well. I’m waiting for Unique to get more in, I’m on the waiting list.

Getting a bunch of turbos, urchin and clean up crew.

How is the water parameters? Skimmer? You have chaeto in the fuge, I guess it is not out competing the turf. Weird, should at least keep it at bay.

i picked up a couple of the abalones from unique, but i qt inverts so...

interesting you mention where it appears, in my tank the left side of the rocks is kinda all "newish" i added earlier this year and that's where all of the turf algae is. the right side is all established/old rock and there's really no turf algae over there

Params read 0 nitrates and .02 phosphates, but I suspect the algae is consuming any nutrients that goes into the tank, so this is very likely a false reading (in the sense that there was nitrates/phosphates feeding the algae). I also do run a skimmer that works like a beast (Regal Octopus 250INT), and chaeto that has been growing well as of late.

Having said all of that, I think the fallow period (along with the other actions I'll be taking described before) should help me avoid the use of chemicals. Time will tell I guess.

I find that nutrients don’t have a big bearing on turf algae as it does for other algae. Good call on qt’ing inverts, that’s the main reason I’ll never order from reef cleaners again. Pyramid snails are _______! I beat them though.
