well Guess who won
yep last night one silly worm won and a tiny Stream of water started coming out of a pinhole size hole in the siliconethe side of my reef tank. I can't believe it. I just made some upgrades to the tank recently. Well Thankfully, my daughter caught it while I was in the shower. Spent the rest of the evening until 3 o'clock inthe am temporarily sealing the tank with silicone and tape and drained the tank
Livestock moved into a Rubbermaid bin and trashcan
wife says it's a sign that I should take a break.
sad :(
Bummer.
Get ready for some great deals on great equipment and livestock in the next few days.

Wonder if this tank is worth repairing
I bought it through Ali from Amazing Aquarium
It's s a well built Leemar tank that is 40x24x20 with low iron glass front and sides and a right rear Herbie overflow
Wood stand from Leemar in good shape as well

Glass and seals otherwise in good shape from what I can see
No scratches.

Hoping just an isolated incident from a renegade bristle worm

My tank had been in stand by mode before recent upgrade so fish, livestock and cleanup crew were minimal for the past few months

Ali has some nice used tank at this store a few days ago. Maybe you can talk with him, and he can make you a deal. I can't believe a renegade brittle worm can do that. That should give shivers to any reef tank owner.

Thanks for the tip about Ali.

unfortunately a quick google search reveals that bristlworms burrowing through silicone does happen occasionally though rare including this

Does make the case for a bare bottom tank, so they can't burrow in the sand and then through the silicone.

yes a bare bottom, acrylic or a good fish that can keep bristle worms under control
I think glass is still ok maybe with reinforcement at the seams which I see some custom aquarium makers include as an option now

I may just go back to nano reefs if the CEO is ok with it and I can resist the urge to upgrade
at least that is easier to manage if any issues arise
