Here we gooooo....I am back in the hobby! What I've learned? Well, when you're gonna go nano, you must ironically spare NO expense. You lose the most important buffer: water volume. So this time around, I am 7 days into my tank cycle and this is the equipment I have amassed so far:

Dry Stock:
Innovative Marine Rimless 9 Gallon All-in-One aquarium tank
Ai Nano light with the 1st generation controller - MUST optimize light conditions
JBJ Nano Auto-Top-Off fed by R.O. jug - MUST maximize spec grav stability!
Hydor Koralia (in addition to the build-in powerhead) - MUST maximize movement!
25w Hydor heater

Livestock:
5 lbs Fiji live rock
10 lbs live sand

Current ammonia level: 1.0ppm (SKY HIGH!)

This, right here, should be a sticky. I feel like the #1 misconception people (including me) have at the time they enter the hobby is that a small tank will be easier and cheaper. Good on you for coming back strong.

That setup looks super clean. Great start!

Week 5 update:
Livestock:
- 1 x Clarky Clown
- 1 x BTA anemone with purple foot
- 1 x Skunk Cleaner Shrimp
- 3 x Nassarius snail
- 2 x Turbo Snail
- 1 x Hermit Crab

People have said the BTA is a bad idea but I think I can make it work.

Anemone and fish survived the 30 hour power outage thanks to car battery with inverter attached to koralia power head. Surprisingly no ammonia or die-off despite condition changes with temp.

FYI: car battery operation indoors is dangerous. Discharge releases some sulfuric acid gas but I only did trickle with 25 watts to just the koralia, and I opened the windows of my bedroom and slept in the living room to avoid noxious exposure. NEVER charge a lead acid car battery indoors as this produces hydrogen gas which is explosive. People with larger tanks use optima car batteries as a backup because they are a closed system. Anyway, I was happy I got 30 hours off of an accord battery with no issue.
