I've been in touch with Biota and been discussing a group buy for SoCalliReefs for Yellow Tangs. If we have enough interest they may be willing to give us a discount.

Here is how it would work:

1. People would go to the Biota website and buy as many Yellow tangs as they wanted. You would be provided with a code to indicate you are part of the group buy and get your discount, if any existed. You would pay Biota. I would NOT handle any of the money.
2. The Yellow tangs would be shipped to my facility and I would "condition" then for two weeks according the Biota protocol. (Yes, they actually have one for this type of thing.)
3. I would deliver the yellow tangs to everyone that bought them. I am considering delivering them for free, but I'm not sure I can afford the fuel cost. If I had 30 or 40 deliveries to make that could get expensive on my part. Let's see where this goes.

Comments please?

They are selling 1.25 inch yellow Tang for $150 on the Biota website...just in case you are curious.link below.

Yellow Tang
Yes. I don't know what type of discount we might get. I suppose it depends on what type of quantity we commit to buying. I may have to commit to making up the difference in quantity if we fall short in the group buy. The reason for this post is to judge interest.

I know they ship them extremely small, like 1” and have heard that they take frozen baby brine and micro pellets.

I bought one from them. Firstly the tang is really small. 1.25 inches nose to tail. When I emailed them they did tell me that and I was ok with it.
However it is not yellow like the pic on their site. If you think you are getting a bright yellow one you will be disappointed.
I think tank bred are not as yellow than wild ones ( they need to specify that )
The tang I got is kind of translucent with a slight hint of yellow. Maybe if it survives and as it gets older it will be more yellow.
That all being said the fish was healthy and seems to be doing fine. The company was a pleasure to deal with.

I've seen the baby biota yellows in person and they do get very bright yellow after some time. You could basically see through it when they arrive but after a while they start to get the normal yellow color.

That's good to know. As you said I can basically see through it now.

I have bought yellows, mandarin. Rabbit file fish from biota. They come in small. If they die. They have a 7 day credit. Mandarin eats pellets. Huge plus.

I’m like 90% sure all yellow tangs start out fairly translucent. I didn’t get mine here but that’s similar to how he was and now he is more yellow than the sun lol
Just feed it well (I supplement with seaweed) and make sure there is enough room and it will get fat, happy and colorful!
