Anyone read the recent Coral Magazine article on Carbon being the smoking gun for Lateral Line Disease (i think that's what its called)? They tested a control system and a 'specific' carbon filtered system and found Tangs developing severe lateral line in the carbon filtered system. What I met by 'specific' is that they used a type of carbon, I forgot the name...

I know that this has been a theory for awhile, but now there's actual backed research. However thorough it might be.

My issue is that, I still got alot of carbon left but only clownfish in my tank.

What are the benefits that ya'll have with carbon?

'cause I'm weighing whether to set it up again.....

yep I read that too (re-read)

there have been 3+ ??? threads on this site alone regarding this finding, and for at leat 4+? years it was suspected.

head and lateral line erosion disease, or HLLED, was caused by LIGNITE carbon pretty definitively, by a controlled experiment. It was noted that certain fish, expecially tangs and angels, are succeptible.

I also have 10 pounds of BRS lignite carbon left. But Ive never had HLLE in any fish, and Ive owned approx 200 in 9 years of owning salt water fish. Still, next time I will likely buy the more costly ROX 0.8 low dust type.

still have traces on one sailfin tang that has recessed a lot. i noticed that it started to heal when i increase the lighting and the dosing. don't know if there is anything scientific in the observation, but have not experienced it on any other fish since then. Sad because i have had the sailfin for 5 years and wish it would completely disapear

Yeah, I got half a gallon container of the BRS stuff... screw it, I'll use it all up and run it for the next few weeks til its spent... Then invest in the other type of carbon later on....

anyone trust the ebay ones?
