I don't see a noise rating for this even on the manufacturers site? It's an overhead valve engine so it should be at least bearable. Things to keep in mind though is they need regular oil changes and will need the valves adjusted based on hours of use. That can cost as much as this on-sale generator. I've had my Honda for years and use it at car shows/swaps 30+ times a year. I've only used it once as backup power just because I had it. Things would have been ok without it.

I have the 3000w Honda and I'm looking at the 1000w just because the 3000 is getting heavier by the year.

BTW- the honda is rated at 66 db, if you can tell the difference I'd be impressed =)
Which Honda are you refering to? The EU line, which uses inverter technology, only goes up to about 59 dBs. Yamaha also makes a similar line of inverter generators at about the same price range.

My 3000 Honda is rated at 48 to 58dB and is load-dependent. The "Eco-Throttle" automatically adjusts engine speed given the usage load.

It may not be worth it to most people as a backup system only but I use it all the time at car show/swaps. Never a complaint in the time I've used it.

Steve, what do you mean by "it may not be worth it ......as a backup system"? I thought 3000W is plenty to run a few household items and keep the pumps running in the tank. So are you really going to sell yours and how much :D

Kenny. By not worth it I mean the price difference between the Honda and this one. If I didn't already own a generator and I only needed it for backup power I'd look at this unit. But I have one and it's not just for backup power and used on a regular basis where noise is an issue. If it fails my beer gets warm, my food spoils, my microwave won't work and the DVD player wont work.

I'm not sorry I spent the money on the Honda and when I get another one I won't consider other manufacturers.

I'm sure it's possible to build one similar to the Honda for less money but with this price difference there's more to it than the brand name IMO.
