Threads I’ve read says to use my washing machine with a little bleach but that seems really scary. What if there was some left over detergent in there? The bleach part also scares me but it seems like a lot of people do it. They cost around 20$ for a 6 pack and if I’m just buying new ones I’m going to go broke. Can you guys let me know exactly how you clean yours?

Ditch those socks! My wife will kill me if I put those nasty socks in the washing machine. Options:
1. Polyfil and put inside media reactor - dirt cheap!
2. Fleece roller - my choice.

I will check out option 1.

Option 2 will not work I don’t think. I have a water box AIO 65.4 gallon and don’t think I have room back there.

Thanks for responding

Then super easy - just go out and buy a 5lbs bag at Michael’s or Walmart. Should last you a decade? ;)

Just looked at your tank — you can 3D print those baskets and stuff with polyfil. Toss out every weekend. Or get nylon socks vs printing. Just a thought

I bleach my filter socks in the washing machine and air dry them. No issues here.

I’ve got about 15 socks. Dirty ones stay moist in a bucket until all the clean ones are gone. Gets me about 6 months of use before I need to wash.

I might just do this. Seems easy enough. I’ll rotate between this and the filter sock and see what works best.

unless you have a dedicated washing machine, I wouldn’t put that much crap, later shared with the other loads.

Screw those socks, polyfil and throw away. If you want something reusable, then check out Sera Crytal Clear filter balls. Once they get dirty, swap out for new/clean ones, then wash clean in the clean, let dry and reuse later on. Plus, if we clean out our tanks too much, then we starve the little hungry mouths that are looking for those particulates. I think mechanical filtration works early in the life of a tank, but once you get some coral bio mass, they want to eat.

I use polyfil in a basket myself. But I get lazy and rarely change it out.

I did socks earlier, moved to polyfil, and now fleece roller. Once you got fleece roller, you ain’t going back! lol
