what can anyone tell me about clown tangs?I am interested in them but wondering if better to buy by the pair or individual? What is anyones input on this.
I hear they get ick pretty easy but STEVEOHH told me just get a cleaner shrimp and they will take care of that(thanks for the input steve).
Well let me know what anyone thinks.

clown tangs can be extremely aggressive and territorial, plus they should have a large tank for swim room as they will cruise around all day long. My suggestion would have at least a min 180g+ tank. If you do plan on adding one with any other tangs in the tank, make sure you add it last. I had one in a 240 and had to pull it out as it was relentless on my other fish including several tangs that were larger.

i would onyl recamend a clown tang if you have a large enough tanka dn are pretty experienced with marine fish, expecially tangs...i have never seen them in a pair,...i have a pair of them...but thats cause i just put them in the tank together and they paired up lol. but i would prob. just keep one by its self...they are very hard to get eating and alot of the time the ones that do eat have parasites and die any ways....just let me know if you have any other questions i would be more then happy to answer them,.

forgot to add....mine are really really peaceful wouldnt hurt a fly....but the majority like 99% of clown tangs are really aggressive, all need a large tank, cause they use just about each inch of it....i can never get a good pic of mine cause they are constantly moving! you just really have to know what to look for when buying one.

Yeah it's hard to get them to eat. I couldn't get the one I picked up to eat anything I put in the tank, fresh or flake. After a couple weeks he got sick with ick and died. Lots of Tangs can be a little hard to keep healthy at first. Ask them to feed the fish while you are there. Then again you could get lucky and get a good healthy fish that takes to the tank.

Also I had a blue tang when I first got started years ago that I couldn't keep healthy. I tried everything but I couldn't keep the ick of him. I was in a new store and found a two part liquid called Marine-Max that I hadn't tried so i gave it a shot. The stuff works great. If you have sick fish you can treat everyday or once a week on a healthy tank. It's reef safe and I highly recommend it if you are getting tangs of any kind.
