how did you put in the water Rash ? Hope you didn't submerge all the way in (even okay to do that but the manufacturer is not recommend) . I had mine for long time, back 2008 till now in my 190 gallon with controller.
Even through Eheim is good brand but the built in thermosat is not good. I used to turn them in high temp so they can turn on all the time, and use controller for it.

agreed on controller, most of the heater in the same type doesnt have good temp controller.
I researched this for a bit and I think there were several models of eheim heaters made. Mine is the model that you can submerge, the manual actually state you have to submerge it.

Hi Rash,
sure. One thing I just notice it, that some website said Fully Submerged, but on the heater itself, where the thermostat has waterline label.
Check. I might be wrong on this cause you said their are few model of it.

I own both types of eheim. One that has a water line where the thermostat is and one that is fully submersible. Never had a problem with Jagers. I do also own a 50w cobalt neo therm that works great on my nano but may change it out after seeing this video.

One thing is a heater failing to turn on or off and another is the thing blowing up. The cobalts have been doing this for a long time now yet I still see people recommend them. I will never use a heater that is not an eheim jager. I have owned countless of them and not one has ever failed me no matter how bad I treated it.

BTW jagers are certified CSA-C22.2 and UL 1018.

1. Anyone with that northern midwest accent is hard to take seriously (Oooh yaaah rayray did grow up there tooouoo ya betcha)

2. Ive always condidered heaters the most dangerous part of the reef tank: blowing up, staring tank/house fires, electrocution, etc

3. I use titanium heaters with their own controller, then plug that into apex for a second layer of safety, then i put it in my sump where i can see it with the web cam daily

4. Despite all that, i usually keep it unplugged. I generate heat with internal pumps, UV, and HID lighting

YMMV & such

All companies have it own flaw in bad designs not just cobalt. For example: IM and Tunze got issue with the sealed magnet getting rusted and the list go on.

i am on 2 years with my Cobalt neotherm 100w on my nano on a controller. i know their heaters for 150w and higher were the crappy ones that kept blowing. I wanted to have a ehiem heater but my sump foot print is too small for one to fit properly.
