You sure it’s .024 and not .24? If so your phos is great. Yeah guess the nitrates and the metals then.

Yea, i sent my water sample in to tritton icp. Does 40 nitrate can really kill corals?
not necessarily. Corals do like dirty water but there is such a thing as too dirty. My previous tank was sitting at 30-35. But corals where ok then got them down to 20 and corals were doing much better. Now with my new tank they sit at 12-15.
One thing is don’t get stuck chasing numbers. You’ll drive yourself crazy. Find your tanks happy spot.

Is it normal for a newly mix batch to saltwater to have like 2-5 nitrate? Last time i checked it has some nitrate in it. The ro/di water has 0, but the IO reef crystals shows like 2-5 nitrate

Also, do you dose any supplements? That iron reading is the only thing I see that's real out of whack on the ICP. You phosphates look good, makes me wonder about your nitrate test kit.

im using the Hanna nitrate high range test and also double checked with salifert. The only thing i dose manually is seachem reef carbonate (alk) when it dips below 7.0.

Siporax is known to leech metals, but your overall advice is in the right direction

OMG, I've been using Siporax for a long time now and was taken back after reading about some of the experiences that others have had. Thanks so much for the information! I really appreciate it.

How so it’s sinterd glass? Only thing it’s normally guilty of if not rinsed before using is increasing silicon content for a bit

That's exactly what I was thinking when I choose this as my new media. I first used MarinePure blocks but threw it away after learning about some sort of metals leaching into the system so I decided to go with Siporax sintered glass. I noticed the Marinpure block (I had 2 big "8x8x4" blocks in my sump) shrunk by the time I decided to throw it away. If I had to guess, I would say it shrunk by about 10% to 15%.

I was excited to try using the new reef safe media, Siporax. I carefully rinsed them out about 7 times with tap water then let them sit in a bucket with RODI water for a few days. Finally, I cured it with waste water from my tank and some live rocks for about a month. Unfortunately, I had a long history of bad reefing since I started using MarinePure blocks and Siporax media.

I started to see a change after replacing the Siporax with some good quality live rocks I found from the local LFS, I started to see nice polyp extension again and the colors have also improved. I can't wait to see how things go from here. Thanks again for the tip joseserrano! I owe you a Denny's Grand Slam breakfast platter. I will look for you at our next in-person meet. Have a great day sir!

Plenty of articles out there stating this. Quick google search

I mean I’ve ran icp on my tank running siporax pond. No metals showing up at all however I will say silicon was pretty high

in a pond I don’t think it would be a huge deal. Especially it being outside. I believe the 2 metals leeched are tin and aluminum. Seems to not be a 100% consistent, but as shared above. It tends to make a difference when removed and having problems

Me personally I’d be worried about where the elevated iron is coming from according to his icp and it sure as hell isn’t coming from the siporax. Js

Tin and aluminum comes from ceramics such as marine pure and other ceramic blocks not siporax

And I didn’t say I ran these in a pond I said I use the siporax pond in my reef. There are two different sizes of siporax. The regular and the pond size. Pond being bigger
