Hello All, fairly new to the hobby. Just setup my 100 tank. Its been running for 2 months now. I do have a refugium in the middle section of my sump with chaeto and a Tunze fuge light. Since I only have a handfull of fishes in my display, I limit my lights, AI Prime HD, to only an hr or so every day. However, I am running the fuge light several hrs at night everyday. I am starting to see some brown stuff in my refugium, possibly diatoms. My question to the group is, should I add some CUC in there? If so, what kind? I did add some copepods there several weeks ago.

You can add some cuc. It will help eat some of the algae and do some of the work of manually removing for you. Sumps are meant to look ugly though. All that stuff you want/prefer to grow there than in the display.

I would add more copepods! But that is because I think they are awesome and super under rated. The more you have in there the better. Depending on the types you have in there they will eat all the algae and feed your fish also. They will take awhile to establish and more is always better. Or you could do a water change and clean it out.

What why do you only run your display light for an hour or so a day?

It doesn’t matter how many fish there is you should be able to run your tank lights 8-12hours a day. Unless your trying to save on the electric bill
