PTF (Pasadena Tropical Fish) also sell their fishes in the bag straight from the wholesaler. I remember went there couple years ago and saw people were gathering around to buy their fishes arrival in the bags. Ha Ha

I’ve met several people that bought fish from me. They asked where I get my fish from. Then they said I got my fish from Tongs and they die. They even told me that Tong’s sold fish in bags that came from the wholesaler and haven’t even been acclimated. I was shocked!!
This tells me Tong’s just want to make a quick dollar and don’t car about the well being of animals.

Tong’s is no worse or better than other LFS in terms of fish quality or customer service. They all have sick fish, which is only natural sine they can’t afford to do a full QT, & bad service from time to time. I personally prefer Tong’s than Seaside cuz Tong & Natalie have better service than David.

I was just at coral gazers a couple weeks ago and he just got in a shipment of fish that were in the bags being temp acclimated and he asked if I was interested in any. I'm sure most LFS wouldn't say "No, unfortunately I can't sell those yet, please come back in X"

Assuming David is the older asian gentlemen and Natalie is the woman working the front normally at Tong's I agree with this statement regarding service.

I've seen more dead fish in tanks at Tong's than at Seaside. Maybe thats just due to Tong's having more inventory. Though i'm fairly certain i've seen ich as well at Tongs.

Anyone have experiences at Oceans Tropical or Sand Bar Pet shop in Mission Viejo? Sand Bars tanks looked really clean for fish.

idk what tongs does, but if you've ever ordered fish online you're getting fish drop shipped from wholesale

what i'd be really weary of is grabbing fish from bags that were just transshipped which is a whole other level of acclimation

I shop at oceans all the time. Dave is great to deal with and his shop is beautiful. All the walls are covered in ocean themed art and the fish have all been healthy that I have purchased. I have found sometimes the frags can be a bit pricey compared to other stores but they are normally healthy.

Sandbar can be okay, however, I’ve had more bad experiences there with rude staff than other stores. They did just move locations and the new store is much nicer and the coral I have purchased from them was healthy as well.

Now it makes sense that Sandbars tanks looked so clean.

Tong’s is a big store, and I see they have quite a few employees. Lot of them young. Kids nowadays don’t know how to talk to people on the phone, it’s all text and Instagram. I find they are pretty chill in person.
