It looks a lot worse in person. It doesn’t look as bad in the pictures.

Reduce phosphates, reduce light time. Is there any sunlight that hits the tank?
I have only checked nitrates and they are in range but I haven’t checked phosphates. The only filtration I have on this tank is filter floss and a filter sock. I do a 5 gallon water change every week and I have only two small fish in the tank. Have you ever had any success with a nano skimmer? This is my first Nano tank. No sunlight getting it the tank.

Cyano isn't caused by nutrients at all, in fact, cyano exists in different nutrient densities. I would simply remove it manually at first. Also, if you're dosing amino acids or fatty acids, protein rich foods, those are all food sources for cyano. The other thing to help it along is to storm your tank and use a flocculant to remove it. There's a recipe for DIY coral snow, which is calcium carbonate mixed with RO water. You only need to dose about 1mL or so for that size tank after you storm your rocks and sand.

Also, that little patch of cyano is nothing I would ever worry about. A lot of times, it simply runs it's course and it's gone. Natural reefs have cyano all over, so it's nothing you need to worry about.

Thanks for the insight.

Idk much on cyno, ive had it before and the way I got rid of it (could be purely coincidental) but I readjusted the flow of my tank so that there were little to no dead spots and it was gone after a couple days. I was also manually removing some of it during that time period. I could be completely wrong but that’s just my experience of how I got rid of it

I’m not sure how old your tank is but remove it manually, increase flow to the affected area and let the tank it’s course. It will go away by itself once the tank is more mature.

Definitely this. Cyano typically will runs its course on it's own, but you can help it along by siphoning out large patches manually. Having higher nutrients will likely increase it's survivability too, check your phosphates.

Thanks for the info. Tank is 5 months old but rock is from another tank that was about 4 years old. I have been removing it manually but it seems to come back quickly. I will try adjusting the flow and see if that helps.

I've been battling cyano for about a year in an older tank with old LR & LS (12+ years, 100 gallon). Water changes, manual removal, refuge with macro etc. Nothing worked. Got fed up and hooked up an old GFO reactor and it's gone. I had stopped using GFO years ago. Phosphates had tested near 0 so I was trying to raise them all this time. Anyways, that's what just worked for me.

Also for what it's worth, Chemiclean worked wonders on my Cyano problem. I had it off and on for almost a year...dosed Chemiclean and it was gone within a week. Hasn't returned in over 2 months.

Didn’t see any negative effects from the corals?
