yes, i guess. I know that new lighting or stronger lighting can cause them. I had them big time when I switched from 175 to 250w. HTH

Diatoms, if you watch it, seem to go away at night and get out of control during the day.
Most people if they get a really bad case of it tend to shut the lights of for 2-3 days to kill it off or just reduce the light period.
You probably already know but it seems to not like high flow either.
