Do Acans lay skeleton over sand?

Quick noob sounding question.. but with acans growing on sandbed.. must they be put onto a tile or something to lay down new skeleton as they grow? Or if put onto rock scape.. will they grow onto the rock and spread or put out there own structure seperate from the rock? Sorry if it's a dumb question..Thanks all

Own structure, but not to sure if they stick to rocks, I have never seen this before, I don't think they do, but ya never know in this hobby!

my acans just grow new heads on the existing skeleton... they never reach out to the rocks though. So IME they stick to their own skeleton =)

Ok.. So on the sandbed.. They will cover their skeleton, but then what.. Stop at the sand, or grow a wider base?

They will grow a wider base. Grow more skeleton

They will keep growing there own skeleton, but If it touches sand they will grow slower. Sand seems to irritate them so I keep mines on top of egg crate.

Thanks!! Good idea.. I was thinking ceramic tiles.. But I have a bunch of eggcrate laying around

Would wellso grown better off the sandbed too?
