Spectacular growth and coloration- congrats! I have a similarank (36x36x24) as well. Flow is very challenging given a cube right? lol

Great photography as well — digital camera or regular phone camera? I suck at taking pics.

Keep up the great work!

Amazing growth and coloration! How did the clam fare, did it recover?
Thanks Daniel! I've had some ups and downs with my clams. Unfortunately, the original maxima did not survive, I believe it was doomed from the beginning. Shortly after in mid April, I bought a smaller biota maxima from Ali at Amazing reefs (thanks to @drexel for making me aware that he had got some in). It acclimated amazingly and has been a beautiful addition to the tank. Fast forward to August, I went on vacation for a couple of weeks and on the second day of my vacation I notice through my apex that the solenoid on my CaRx is going on and off fifty times a day. When I got home, I found out that the intake to the CaRx had been blocked completely so my tank had only been supplemented by the Kalkreactor. My jaw dropped when i tested my alk and it read 5.5dkh. Surprisingly enough, everything in the tank looked good except for my dersea clam which had turned completely white. I very slowly rose my alk over the next week or two and the dersea has been making a slow recovery ever since. The maxima never skipped a beat. Below is the still recovering dersea and bulletproof maxima.

You tank is looking incredible, such great color and growth!
Thanks smite for saying that, but I just feel like something with my tank is still off. Some acros that were doing great are now just in a sort of limbo. I've been following your build and started watching a video from Abe that you had referenced about carbon dosing. I'm starting to believe that I may have "old tank syndrome" and am looking into the possibility of carbon dosing. I'm sure it's not that scary, but I've heard some horror stories about it that make me worry.

Thanks Bakbay. Yes, flow is and has always been a pretty big challenge. I'm up to 4 tunzes (2x6055s and 2x6095s) one mp40 and one 4k icecap gyre. I feel like I'm pretty bad at photography as well, I take 30 pictures before I get a halfway decent one. I use an iphone but the portholes and orange lenses help out a lot. Do you have a build or tank pics?

Tunze wavemakers are workhorses- they last pretty much forever! I’m running 3xWAVs and 2xMP40s but feel I still need more flow! I’m not a fan of gyres (love the flow though) due to the maintenance headache with them.

My tank is going to be 3yrs old next month — SPS dominant, still no water changes! lol, lazy I actually run 5 tanks now (one of which being a HT). Sorry that I don’t have a build thread here. I’m on R2R

Nice! That derasa looks like a gigas now, but it should recover nicely over time. I think everything is moving in a very good direction, just keep the ship in that direction and see how it goes.

That’s why I’m a fan of Tropic Marin’s carbon dosing products. They’re based off your nutrient levels, specifically phosphate. Just start off slow with a lower dose and work your way up slowly.

That's funny, I was just reading about NP bacto balance. I think i might try it out, and yes, go very slow

That maxima clam is super nice, I didn't even know Ali got those in. I'm a bit torn on which direction to take...clams or copperband.

Concur - awesome maxima, very colorful & nice patterns! I love the Deresa as well but it will outgrow the tank in a few years, another reason to upgrade! lol

I have a Teardrop and she’s coasting on the tank bottom.

Congratulations on a really beautiful tank, it looks very lush and healthy, and I like the way you mounted the corals so the color contrasts really pop! I think you're a better photographer than you give yourself credit for.
Do you have any issues with species growing into each other and not reacting well?

Yeah, I constantly have coral encrusting into each other. At that point, decisions need to be made on what I want the outcome to be. On a few occasions, I've just let some corals just take over others. But in the instances where I want the loosing coral to survive, I'll cover the invading coral's encrusting line with a 1/4" to 1/2' strip of coral epoxy. I'll leave it there for about a week to make sure it dies and then peel it up exposing the dead skeleton.

That’s when you realized that tabling acros are like montipora cap - they can quickly shadow anything in a few short months! lol

What have been your fastest growers? Mine have been torts.

Shadowing is definitely becoming a big problem. I’m considering changing up my lighting in the near future to help with this problem. If I pull the trigger it’s going to be either 4-xr15’s or 4-reefi uno pros in the four corners. I’m leaning towards the reefi’s.

I don’t have one specific coral that has been consistently the fastest grower. It seems like some will explode with growth for some time and then slow down for no reason at all while others take off. For a while, my ASD rainbow got huge to the point where I had to frag it every few weeks, but lately it has halted growth. To make things more confusing, my other millis are now taking off. Sigh, SPS can be very frustrating.
